Japan Sets New Carbon Goals, Boosting Nuclear & Renewables

Japan has set new decarbonization targets, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2035 and 73% by 2040 from 2013 levels, as part of its plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. These goals will be submitted under the Paris Agreement, with a goal of doing their part to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

To support these targets, Japan has introduced a revised energy plan that prioritizes renewables, aiming to generate 40-50% of electricity from them by 2040, while nuclear power will contribute 20%. This marks a shift away from the nuclear phaseout policy adopted after the Fukushima disaster. The plan also seeks to reduce coal reliance and invest in next-generation energy technologies like solar batteries and portable solar panels. Having a concrete goal and plan is a huge step in the right direction to limit emissions.

Skincare tip of the week

Incorporate Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is a natural astringent with tons of skincare and health benefits. You have probably heard of it in toners, but it comes in other forms like face wash and acne spot treatment as well. Some of its key advantages are...

🌿 Reduces Inflammation – Soothes irritated skin, making it great for acne, eczema, and redness.
🌿 Controls Oil & Minimizes Pores – Acts as a natural toner, helping to tighten pores and balance oily skin.
🌿 Fights Acne – Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help reduce breakouts and calm existing blemishes.
🌿 Soothes Razor Burn & Bug Bites – Provides relief from itchiness, swelling, and irritation.
🌿 Reduces Puffiness – Helps depuff under-eye bags and refresh tired skin.

Other Benefits:

🌿 Natural Antiseptic – Can be used to cleanse minor cuts and wounds.
🌿 Alleviates Scalp Irritation – Helps soothe dandruff and itchy scalp when used in hair care.
🌿 Relieves Sunburn & Skin Burns – Cools and calms sun-damaged skin.

Not all witch hazel formulas are made the same, though. No matter what form you use it in, you will want to make sure it is an alcohol free formulation. This will help prevent excessive dryness. You will also want to make sure you are buying a natural form that doesn't have other synthetics ingredients. These might have adverse side effects, and prevent the true benefits of witch hazel from coming through.

UnTamed Naturals has a great witch hazel face wash, acne spot treatment, and toner. All of their products have responsibly sourced, natural formulations with minimal ingredients. (Keep scrolling, there may be a surprise discount at the end of the Newsletter!)

Sustainability Challenge

Use what you have before you buy something new

It can be so temping to buy the newest, latest, seemingly best thing. But you if you want to start cutting back on waste, the best thing you can do is use what you have before you buy anything new!

This can be as simple as looking in your fridge and making a meal with the ingredients you see before ordering in, or it can be something a little more time consuming like mending a clothing item before buying a new item.

Next time you go to buy something, ask yourself, do I really need this? Do I have something similar at home that I could use, reuse, or upcycle?

Remember, small changes lead to big impact!
